Carlson Wireless Applauds U.S.-Mexico Cross-Border 4.9 GHz Agreement

Updates, Feb 02 2010

The United States and Mexico signed a new protocol to reduce the possibility of cross-border radio interference between public-safety organizations as they begin employing 4.9 GHz for broadband fixed and mobile use in the common border area.

The agreement was signed by Ambassador Philip L. Verveer, U.S. coordinator for international communications and information policy of the U.S. Department of State; Luz Maria Gabriela Hernandez Cardoso, undersecretary of the Mexican Ministry of Communications and Transportation; and Hector G. Osuna Jaime, chairman of Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Commission.

According to a State Department press release, “The signing of the protocol is the culmination of more than two years of bilateral discussions to find the appropriate technical mechanisms to achieve cross-border compatibility for public-safety organizations in both countries.”

Carlson Wireless is pleased at the news of the cross-border agreement. We currently sell both our 4.9 GHz Trailblazer and LongHaul products into both countries. Our public safety customers recognize that the Trailblazer and LongHaul are compatible with all voting/simulcast systems, both feature low fixed latency, and offer the advantages of Carlson’s exclusive TrueTDM™ technology.
