Carlson Wireless Technologies Updates:
Trailblazer Wireless Phone Line Extender System Installed Near North Pole in Sub-Zero Arctic Weather
Updates, Feb 15 2010
Sebastian Lemieux of LS VSat based in Quebec City, Canada recently sent photos of the installation of a Trailblazer Wireless Phone Line Extender system installed in Arctic Bay for the local government. The link carries two phone lines (POTS) from the communications/satellite center to the Arctic Bay Airport. This airstrip is located 3 NM (5.6 km; 3.5 mi) southeast of Arctic Arctic Bay, Nunavut, Canada.
Two links connected with a repeater to provide line-of-sight over a hill 5 miles between the sites. The antennas were 2' Radiowave models with radomes for protection from the harsh elements. This was done in order to link the two without having to pull cable through and over the frozen tundra.
The system was installed in sub zero (-50ºF) weather with only two hours of sunlight a day.
Arctic Bay is an Inuit town located in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada.
Trailblazer radios are located on every continent on the planet—from the frigid North Slope of Alaska to the heat of the Saharan Desert and the humid Jungles of Laos.
